JFKMCHS
Tardy Program
JFK will be starting a new tardy program this semester. This program was developed by our JFK staff members to better support our chronically tardy students while also minimizing instructional time loss.

Message to Families
This program is designed to be restorative, meaning that it helps students regain their instructional time. A few highlights of the program include:
-
Two-week grace period before the program begins on January 26, 2026
-
Built in tardy forgiveness & tardy counts that reset every quarter
-
Our goal is to reduce tardies and increase instructional time by promoting Excel attendance to restore missed instruction.
-
Four Levels of Support:
-
Level 1 (0-5 Tardies): Things happen. Students are issued warnings.
-
Level 2 (6-9 Tardies): Students will attend the Excel period for either the class they arrived late to OR the class with their lowest grade. Students can select the weekdays and choose which of the two Excel course options they would like to attend. Each Excel that is attended will restore one tardy.
-
Level 3 (10+ Tardies): Students will attend Mandatory Excel periods to restore their tardies. These periods will be scheduled, and attendance will be taken. Each Excel that is attended will restore one tardy.
-
Level 4 (11+ Tardies): Students with 11 or more tardies will be considered both Level 3 and Level 4. These students will be enrolled in Mandatory Excel and will receive increased support from our Tardy Program Team.
-
-
Staff will continually track data and evaluate the program’s effectiveness

Tardy Program
Student Lesson
On Thursday, January 15th, during Excel, our students participated in a school-wide lesson on the tardy program. The purpose was to outline the new program, emphasize that most students are currently meeting tardy expectations and will remain unaffected by the program, and answer any questions.
